On October 16th, Ben E. Keith Co. held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new foodservice distribution center in New Brockton, Alabama. The new facility will position the company to expand its distribution coverage in the Southeast by adding up to a million square feet of temperature-controlled warehouse space in the future.
ESI Group designed and will construct the 400,000 square foot distribution center plus another 25,000 square feet of outbuilding space. The project will complete the fourth quarter of 2021. Dematic Multi-Shuttles, a state-of-the-art refrigeration and security systems, LED lighting, exclusive WMS systems, a modern test kitchen, and a training center are among the facilities’ unique features.
Ben E. Keith Foods President Mike Sweet shared, “Ben E. Keith Foods is deeply committed to the communities of Alabama, and considers this our gateway to the Southeast as we continue to expand our market area.” “The added capacity will be a welcomed addition to enhance the customer experience through more product offerings, technology, and services.”
Over the next several years this location will add 80 new jobs to the 230+ people the company already employs through its existing facility in Elba, Alabama.
Founded in 1906, Ben E. Keith is the nation’s eighth-largest broad line foodservice distributor and operates with eight divisions shipping to 17 states throughout the country.
