Preconstruction Estimator
Job Location: Hybrid
Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for projects during the preconstruction phase. This role involves collaborating with business development teams, design teams, clients, and project managers to ensure project budgets are aligned with expectations while upholding industry standards and company goals. This role is based in the Hartland office with hybrid flexibility. For highly experienced candidates, a primarily remote arrangement may be considered.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for cold storage construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare conceptual and detailed estimates at various stages of design, from initial feasibility studies to final preconstruction phases.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to understand project scope and
- Work closely with architects, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure accurate understanding of project goals and objectives.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and ensure estimates reflect current market conditions and align with project scope.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and propose alternative solutions or materials without compromising project quality or functionality.
- Provide recommendations to optimize budgets and meet client
- Assess project risks related to cost and schedule during the preconstruction phase and develop strategies to mitigate potential challenges.
- Incorporate contingency planning into estimates to address unforeseen conditions or changes in project scope.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market pricing, and advancements in construction techniques and materials specific to cold storage facilities.
- Conduct research on regional and global pricing fluctuations for key components of cold storage and food and beverage construction projects.
- Prepare and present detailed estimate reports, including breakdowns of costs, schedules, and assumptions, to internal teams and clients.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, vendor quotes, and project specifications for future reference.

Education & Skills Requirements:
- College degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cost estimating or preconstruction in the construction industry, preferably in cold storage or food and beverage facilities.
- Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and systems.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, vendors, and project teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates simultaneously within tight deadlines. Knowledge of industry-specific standards and codes related to cold storage facilities.
- Nationwide travel is required on an occasional basis Professional references are required
